Purpose of Position
The Chief Engineer (CE) is the senior technical authority for their division’s aircraft simulation programs, responsible for establishing, maintaining, and assuring the technical integrity, performance fidelity, and qualification readiness of full flight simulators (FFS), flight training devices (FTD), and associated modeling and simulation systems. The CE owns the technical roadmap for their division, driving strategic technology development to support next-generation simulation capabilities.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Serve as the design authority for system architectures, interface control documents, and program-level technical baselines.
Establish and enforce engineering standards, configuration governance, model fidelity criteria, and verification & validation practices.
Approve all product technical releases, waivers to engineering standards, and closure of major verification anomalies.
Act as the technical signatory for qualification and compliance artifacts submitted to regulators and customers.
Interface with Program Management, Software Engineering, Systems Integration, Test Engineering, Hardware Design, Supply/OEM, Regulatory Affairs, and Customer Technical Representatives.
Provide escalated technical recommendations to the VP Engineering and the Program Executive Committee as needed.
Develop and maintain a prioritized technical roadmap and advocate for critical tools, laboratory assets, and flight test data resources needed for fidelity and verification.
