Dispatch Manager
A Dispatch Manager in a logistics company is integral to ensuring the effective and timely delivery of goods and services. This role involves coordinating, monitoring, and managing dispatch operations to support smooth and efficient logistics processes.
The Dispatch Manager is responsible for the overall leadership of the Dispatch Department, including the direct management of the Dispatch Supervisors who oversee the day-to-day activities of the dispatch team. The Dispatch Manager provides direction, coaching, accountability, and support to the supervisors while ensuring dispatch operations meet company policies, operational goals, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Supervisor Leadership and Management: Directly manage and provide leadership to the Dispatch Supervisors who oversee the Dispatch team. Establish expectations, provide coaching and feedback, monitor performance, and ensure supervisors are effectively managing their assigned teams and responsibilities.
Dispatch Team Oversight: Maintain overall responsibility for the performance of the Dispatch Department. Work through the Dispatch Supervisors to ensure dispatchers are properly trained, supported, scheduled, and held accountable to company standards.
Coordination of Dispatch Operations: Manage and oversee daily dispatch activities, including scheduling, routing, driver coverage, and tracking deliveries to ensure efficiency, reliability, and on-time service.
Staffing and Coverage: Work with supervisors to ensure appropriate staffing and coverage across shifts, including managing call-offs, PTO, schedule changes, workload fluctuations, and other operational needs.
Leadership Development: Develop and mentor Dispatch Supervisors by strengthening their leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and team-management skills.
Performance Management: Monitor supervisor and department performance, address performance concerns, recognize strong performance, establish improvement expectations, and ensure appropriate follow-through.
