Summer 2027 Maintenance Programs Solutions & Analytics Internship

The Southwest Airlines’ Maintenance Programs Solutions & Analytics Intern may be asked to support a variety of projects on the Performance and Technology Team within the Technical Operations Department:

  • Performance and Technology Team: This Team drives performance, business process improvement, technology strategy, analytics, and cross-functional initiatives that support aircraft maintenance programs across Southwest. Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting projects that improve efficiency, enhance data-driven decision-making, and advance strategic initiatives while collaborating with Teams across Technical Operations, Technology, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other operational areas.

Additional Details

  • Join Southwest as a Summer 2027 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 18 – August 8, 2027.
  • Pay of $24-$28 per hour, corresponding with progress toward degree.
  • Stipends may be offered based on eligibility and program criteria.

Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours (2702 Love Field Drive).
  • Dedicate 40 hours each week (maximum of 8 hours per day) to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
  • Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel).
  • Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.
  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Programs Solutions & Analytics Intern may include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify operational improvement opportunities and help design scalable solutions that increase efficiency across Maintenance Programs.
  • Recognize operational inefficiencies in current processes and understanding the importance in improving them.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives involving Maintenance Programs, Engineering, Technology, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in planning, tracking, and executing projects using established project management and continuous improvement practices.
  • Creation and delivering of presentations that are clear and convey key information such as roadmaps, and business cases to support change and drive alignment that can be presented at the executive level.
  • Support cross-functional teams in evaluating operational challenges and recommending data-driven solutions.
  • Analyze complex data sets to derive insights that inform long-term strategy and business decisions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Proactively monitor projects and communicate risks, issues, and scope, ensuring the appropriate level of priority, visibility, and escalation.
  • Build analyses, reports, dashboards, and presentation that measure operational performance and communication insights to leadership.
  • Evaluate technologies, business processes, and operational practices to support modernization and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly to various audiences.
  • Interest in aviation operations, maintenance programs, data analytics, process improvement, or business strategy.
  • Experience using Excel, PowerPoint, Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data analysis and visualization tools.
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a team.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines.
  • Self-starter with a high degree of autonomy and accountability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities.

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Progress towards degree, major, or minor Engineering, Aviation, Business Analytics OR similar degree.
  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred.
  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship.
  • At least 3 semesters remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred.
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process.

Experience

  • Preferred: Experience with using tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, Microsoft Office 365 products.
  • Preferred: Experience creating presentations, reports, dashboards, or business analyses.
  • Preferred: Interest in airline operations, maintenance programs, or operational excellence initiatives.
