The Role

The SIADS Systems Engineer will join Draken’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) team, applying systems engineering expertise to a wide variety of internal and customer projects. Reporting to the Chief Engineer and working within an Integrated Product Team (IPT), you’ll help ensure projects are delivered and accepted to specification within agreed costs and timescales.

Your primary focus will be the S-IADS programme, supporting the Technical Lead to develop the product and capability and deliver the technical content of trials and demonstration events. You’ll drive requirements specification, anticipate system, hardware, software and test complexity, and negotiate challenging customer requirements to minimise project risk.

Systems Engineering & Technical Delivery

  • Develop and maintain system and subsystem requirements, configuration documentation, technical manuals and training materials
  • Review systems, hardware, software, test and integration documentation to confirm design and architecture compliance
  • Anticipate design, integration and test complexity early, helping to minimise technical risk
  • Deliver agreed engineering tasks to time, budget and quality, contributing to IPT performance and customer acceptance

S-IADS Capability & Equipment

  • Support the Technical Lead with S-IADS product and capability development and the technical delivery of trials and demonstration events
  • Refine concepts of operation and improve equipment deployability for daily training and detachments
  • Research relevant technologies to support equipment development, manage equipment stock and troubleshoot failed equipment

Customer Engagement & Bids

  • Work with customers and stakeholders to understand, negotiate and agree requirements
  • Develop technical proposals for new bids, presenting existing capability and responding to new customer requirements
  • Provide quality technical input to bids and estimates, supporting the Bid Manager and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to customer meetings and travel within the UK and overseas as required

Safety, Quality & Governance

  • Apply relevant engineering and safety requirements throughout your work, including:
    • Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) standards and safe systems of work
    • Engineering framework and governance procedures
    • Lifecycle management (LCM) processes and practices
    • Applicable regulatory requirements and design compliance standards
  • Maintain the safety, quality and regulatory compliance of all activities

Teamwork & Continuous Improvement

  • Help maximise team performance through proactive working, self-motivation and clear communication
  • Maintain, develop and share relevant technical skills and domain knowledge
  • Recommend improvements to engineering processes, practices and measures of performance
  • Build strong relationships with team leads and peers, working in line with Draken’s values, behaviours and company ethics
