Job Description

L3Harris is seeking a motivated and experienced Space Vehicle Assembly, Integration and Test (SV AI&T) technician to support activities building and testing space vehicles at our Palm Bay, FL location. The hardware produced at this location is mission critical and often complex, containing spacecraft bus, mission payloads, complex microelectronic assemblies and higher-level system assemblies including small satellites and top-level space vehicles.

Essential Functions

This is a hands-on manufacturing position and requires technicians knowledgeable in aerospace assembly and hi-reliability procedures. Supporting activities will include:

  • Support of space vehicle/satellite manufacturing
  • Lead technician responsibilities with limited supervision
  • Create and execute measurement plans using laser trackers, radars and CMM style equipment and related software
  • Follow engineering drawings and defined manufacturing processes. Work with engineering and management to create and update manufacturing processes related to SV manufacturing, test and payload processing
  • Environments testing of space flight hardware
  • Making adjustments, repairs and updates to support tooling and fixtures used to produce space rated hardware
  • Lead complex tasks. Lead pre task and safety briefings
  • Provide hand-off or schedule status to alternate shift manufacturing teams
  • Cable and harness installation, routing and cable management, cable mate/demate operations
  • Mechanical assembly and test of space hardware including ESD sensitive hardware.
  • Leading rigging and overhead crane and forklift operations
  • Preparation for and conducting system level hardware testing (deployments, vibe, etc.).
  • Performing system level alignments to meet system requirements
  • Move equipment weighing 45 pounds or less from one place to another.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 5 years of prior related experience
  • 1+ year of Metrology experience to create and execute measurement plans using laser trackers, radars, CMM style equipment and related software
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends and second shift
  • Must be able to obtain a US security clearance as a job requirement

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience with space vehicle/satellite assembly and test.
  • Hi-Reliability, Bonding, cable routing, cable and harness pinout testing, soldering
  • Fabrication, machining working on and repairing metal parts
  • Assembling and aligning parts to tight tolerances
  • Strong sense of responsibility, ownership and follow-through
  • Team player, pro-active, and customer-oriented with a sense of urgency to accomplish a given task or goal
  • Possess a high level of initiative and willingness to learn
  • Exceptional organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional mechanical skills and keen situational awareness Experience working and leading technician teams through payload processing, launch prep and other field activities related to satellite manufacturing
  • Experience performing and leading stow/rig, crane and forklift ops to move space flight hardware
  • Experience with MGSE and/or EGSE operation for space vehicles
  • Active TS security clearance or at least a DOD secret clearance
