Role Introduction

Reports to: Automation Development Lead
Drive the development of intelligent automation solutions that help strengthen IT operations across Cathay's technology landscape. You will work on workflow automation, log ingestion, auto-healing capabilities, self-service automation, monitoring platforms, IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and chatbot technologies to solve complex operational challenges and improve service reliability.
Working closely with business users, technology teams, architects, and external vendors, you will translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, taking ownership from design through deployment and production support. The role combines hands-on engineering with Agile delivery, requiring expertise in automation technologies, cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, application programming interfaces (APIs), and modern DevOps practices.
Your work will directly contribute to more efficient, resilient, and intelligent technology services, giving you the opportunity to influence innovation across multiple IT domains while helping move people forward through dependable digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business users, internal technology teams, and external vendors to identify and deliver secure, reliable, scalable automation solutions for complex business challenges
  • Analyse requirements and translate business needs into technical designs, development plans, and implementation activities in partnership with business and IT stakeholders
  • Participate in Agile Scrum delivery activities, serving as Scrum Master, Product Owner, developer, or other delivery roles as required
  • Manage assigned work independently, balancing priorities, dependencies, constraints, and risks to achieve successful and timely delivery
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration through clear communication, stakeholder engagement, and effective technical documentation
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain automation solutions and prototypes using established engineering best practices
  • Deliver automation enhancements and bug fixes while supporting continuous improvement across operational platforms and services
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 production support, troubleshooting and resolving issues affecting systems and services
  • Partner with technical leads and architects to define technical approaches and develop solutions for web and mobile applications
  • Support and maintain monitoring, chatbot, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps), and IT Service Management platforms

Requirements

  • Degree qualification, or equivalent educational qualification, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the IT industry with strong exposure to software development and the full software development lifecycle
  • Strong knowledge of Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) practices
  • Hands-on experience with JavaScript, Python, Ansible, PowerShell, Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs, JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), and Extensible Markup Language (XML)
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases, relational database management systems, and cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure
  • Good understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), chatbot technologies, and Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps)
  • Experience working in Agile and Scrum environments, with strong knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies
  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, and monitoring tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, and Elastic Stack (ELK)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, organisational, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, stakeholder management, security and compliance awareness, and collaboration skills; airline industry knowledge is beneficial but not required
