• This job is a member of the Quality Control Team within the Engineering and Quality Division. Responsible for ensuring the safety, airworthiness, and regulatory compliance of American Airlines' aircraft. QC Inspectors are highly skilled technical professionals who provide independent oversight of maintenance activities and serve as the final verification that our aircraft are safe for return to service.

Technical Functions

• Verify quality of workmanship and the airworthiness of aircraft and aircraft components completed by individual Aviation Maintenance personnel
• Receive inspection of materials, parts, subassemblies
• Initial aircraft inspection at the Maintenance Bases
• Perform overhaul inspection of aircraft (including power plant) at locations where maintenance is occurring
• Upon request from others, perform double check inspections to assist in decisions on airworthiness
• Perform inspections/checks
• Perform Non-destructive Testing (NDT)
• Perform borescope inspections
• Perform Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walks, as assigned
• Ensure serviceability and aircraft effectivity of parts and components
• Properly interpret colors in order to complete various inspection tasks (e.g., correctly identify wire colors)
• Complete forms related to work tasks
• Sign mechanical flight releases
• Use tools and inspection aids to perform inspections
• Use equipment such as ladders and hoists to complete inspections
• Keep up to date with and help interpret the General Procedures Manual (GPM), RII list, and other technical manuals
• Maintain personal qualifications

Inspector Work Conditions – General Functions

• Perform inspections in confined, tight, awkward, or elevated spaces
• Perform inspections in extreme environmental conditions, including extreme heat (over 100° Fahrenheit), extreme cold (below 32° Fahrenheit), rain, sleet, wind, and snow
• Perform inspections in conditions that are dirty (e.g., dirt, dust, grime)
• Perform duties that require use of personal protective equipment (e.g., wearing fall protection while working at heights, wearing respirators while working around fumes and vapors)
• Perform duties that require general safety awareness (e.g., when working in an area with moving vehicles)

American Airlines – General Functions

• Perform all functions in accordance with safety procedures and policies
• Coordinate with other employees (e.g., Engineers, Repair Order Administrators, Purchase Order Administrators, Records) and stakeholders in order to accomplish work tasks
• Report to position on time, as scheduled, and at assigned station or location, including varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Complete job-relevant trainings
• Adhere to government (e.g., DOT, FAA, TSA) regulations
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, and performance standards
• Wear uniforms as required by company policy (e.g., line personnel)
• Follow instructions from Quality Control management
• Use computer and relevant electronic systems (e.g., Septre) to complete work

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Must be qualified in the basic Classification and have one (1) year verifiable job-related work experience
• Possess the medical requirements established for Inspector, as determined by an examination, conducted prior to regular assignment to the classification through the appropriate Company authorized medical facility and each year thereafter
• Must pass the color perception test – if test is not passed, a second test may be required to ensure that the inspector meets the minimum color definition requirementPerform non-destructive testing, if required
• Perform non-destructive testing, if required

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• High School diploma or GED equivalency
• One (1) year verifiable work experience as a licensed AMT
• Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
• Must successfully demonstrate the minimum color perception requirements for the position.
• Must pass FAA criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA)
• Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable

• Valid driver's license
• FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certificate
