Description and purpose of the role:
The WestJet Translation Services team is looking for a Language Compliance Strategist to manage a high volume of requests submitted by internal teams, with a strong focus on heavy post-editing of machine-translated content from English into Canadian French.
The successful candidate will review, correct and improve machine-translated content to ensure it is accurate, natural, appropriate for the context, and aligned with WestJet’s terminology and quality standards. This includes rewriting content when necessary, improving structure and readability, and determining when content requires full human translation or, in certain cases, transcreation.
This WestJetter is an experienced language professional who can work efficiently in a technology-enabled environment while providing practical guidance and support to client teams, project teams, frontline employees and WestJetters across the organization.
Key deliverables include:
Manage a high daily volume of words across multiple projects and content types (e.g., policies, procedures, training documents, etc.) while meeting tight deadlines and maintaining high linguistic quality.
Determine whether content requires post-editing, translation, or adaptation.
Translate, proofread, and adapt content when machine translation is unsuitable.
Maintain translation memories, termbases, and style guides, and improve language workflows and machine translation output.
Use tools such as Trados and Language Weaver.
Provide language guidance and collaborate with internal teams.
Professional qualifications:
At least 3 to 6 years of experience in English-to-French translation, editing or language services, with a demonstrated ability to manage high daily volumes of content in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting multiple competing deadlines.
Strong experience with heavy post-editing of machine-translated content into publication-ready Canadian French.
Sound judgment in choosing between post-editing, translation, rewriting, and adaptation.
Exceptional French editing, rewriting and proofreading skills.
Ability to evaluate content ecosystems, workflows and governance models to identify opportunities that advance organizational francization goals.
Experience supporting francization initiatives within large, complex organizations operating in regulated environments is an asset.
Experience working with AI-powered language solutions to support translation, post-editing, content adaptation and linguistic quality assurance, with the ability to assess their effectiveness and appropriate use cases.
Strong knowledge of the French-Canadian language and culture.
Advanced experience with translation and machine-translation tools, including Trados and Language Weaver.
Degree in Translation, or a Translation Certificate combined with significant professional experience.
