Engineering Management Undergraduate Placement Year

Programme title: Engineering Management Placement Year

Location: Stockton Close, Walsall, WS2 8LD

Application closing date: 20 October 2026

Start date: September 2027

Role ID: 74734

What you’ll do

You’ll play a vital role in delivering engineering solutions that support national defence and public safety. From enabling specialist vehicle programmes for the Metropolitan Police to supporting complex armoured and civilian platforms, your work will help ensure these assets are safe, reliable, and ready for deployment.

Throughout your placement year, you’ll gain exposure to a wide range of engineering management activities. You’ll support the planning and delivery of projects, working alongside engineers and project teams to coordinate design, integration, and testing activities to meet programme requirements. You’ll also contribute to project documentation, track progress against schedules, and help manage risks, changes, and stakeholder requirements.

Working within multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll develop strong communication and collaboration skills while gaining an understanding of how complex engineering programmes are delivered. You’ll engage with suppliers, support technical reviews, and contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives that help keep projects on track.

Throughout the programme, you’ll be supported by experienced mentors and a structured development plan designed to build your confidence across engineering and management disciplines, helping you develop the skills needed for a future career in engineering leadership.

What you’ll get out of it

Our placements are about more than work experience – they’re an opportunity to immerse yourself in life at Babcock, form meaningful connections, and develop skills that will set you up for your future career. You’ll work alongside supportive colleagues and gain guidance from experienced professionals every step of the way.

We value the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that placement students bring to our team. We believe you have the potential to shape the future of our business. But we also understand that this placement is as much about you assessing what’s right for you as it is about us getting to know you. Perform well, and you could be considered for a position on our graduate programme – your journey with Babcock could just be getting started.

What you’ll need

  • You’ll need to be studying towards an undergraduate degree in engineering. Degrees in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering are preferred.

For this programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance.
