ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM

As an Associate Software Developer within the Technology and Engineering Borders department, you will help ensure the quality, reliability, and operational readiness of hardware-integrated software products. You will test complete product workflows across software, devices, and supporting infrastructure, investigate defects, and collaborate with development, product, and delivery teams to improve product quality.

This is an Associate Software Developer role suited to a candidate with approximately 1 to 2 years of relevant software testing and automation experience. Due to the hands-on nature of the product and access to specialist hardware and test environments, the role requires working from the office five days per week. Occasional travel to other offices, laboratories, customer sites, or deployment locations may also be required.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Create, maintain, execute, and review functionality, integration, system, regression, and hardware software test cases.
  • Validate end-to-end product workflows involving embedded systems, biometric or peripheral devices, gates, kiosks, monitoring applications, and backend services.
  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites using AI-driven automation techniques to improve test coverage, efficiency, and quality.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate test design, test data preparation, defect analysis, automation development, and regression coverage.
  • Perform hardware validation, compatibility testing, performance testing, stress testing, and failure diagnostics.
  • Investigate defects using application logs, device logs, database evidence, network traces, and debugging tools; document clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
  • Work closely with developers and other engineers to isolate and resolve software, hardware, configuration, and environment issues.
  • Contribute to test planning, estimation, traceability, quality reporting, and release-readiness activities within an Agile delivery model.
  • Maintain test assets, product documentation, troubleshooting guidance, and lessons learned.
  • Support demonstrations, deployments, and product validation activities when required, including occasional travel.
Qualifications

ABOUT YOUR SKILLS

  • Approximately 1 to 2 years of software testing, system testing, hardware validation, or a related engineering experience.
  • Practical knowledge of software testing methodologies, defect management, regression testing, and test evidence.
  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining automated tests.
  • AI-assisted test automation capability is mandatory, including practical use of AI tools to design, generate, review, maintain, or optimise automated tests.
  • Ability to troubleshoot integrated hardware and software solutions using structured diagnostic techniques.
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language, such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Understanding APIs, databases, logs, version control, and continuous integration of pipelines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under delivery pressure and manage priorities in a product environment.
  • Understanding Agile principles and collaborative delivery practices.
  • Ability to work from the office five days per week and travel occasionally when required.
  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.

NICE-TO-HAVE

  • Knowledge of hardware devices, hardware software integration, and hardware validation or testing will be an added advantage.
  • Relevant testing or automation certification is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience with automation tools or frameworks such as Robot Framework, Selenium, Playwright, Appium, REST-assured, or equivalent.
  • Exposure to Azure DevOps, test-management tools, SQL, REST APIs, Linux or Windows administration, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Awareness of secure testing, accessibility, performance testing, and operational monitoring.

WORK ARRANGEMENTS

  • Office-based attendance is required five days per week because the role involves hands-on access to the product, specialist hardware, devices, and test environments.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support product validation, demonstrations, deployments, laboratories, other SITA offices, or customer sites.
  • Flexibility may be required during critical testing, release, demonstration, or deployment activities.
